Basic issues in the selection of waterproof materials for steel structures

Steel structure waterproof materials

The selection of Steel structure materials is not a trivial matter! It carries the weight of the building and also safeguards the safety of the structure, with a rigorous and comprehensive consideration system behind it. This includes many factors such as the importance of the structure, load characteristics, structural form, stress conditions, connection methods, steel thickness, and working environment. So, what are the things we need to pay attention to regarding the basic materials of steel structures?

Firstly, the waterproofing materials selected for roof engineering cannot be applied to anything. The drawings must clearly indicate the types, models, and specifications of waterproof materials, and the physical properties of these materials must meet our regulations on the quality indicators of such materials.

Secondly, when selecting roof waterproofing membranes, coatings, and joint sealing materials for steel structures, we must strictly follow the relevant design points of the specifications, which cannot be careless.

Furthermore, considering the complexity of the construction environment and process, in some cases, the materials used must be compatible. For example, waterproof materials must be compatible with base treatment agents, adhesives, sealing materials, and protective coatings; When two waterproof materials are used in combination, they must also coexist harmoniously; Grassroots treatment agents and sealing materials also need to be good friends.

Then, when selecting waterproof materials for steel structures, we also need to consider the nature and functional use of the building. For example, for non accessible roofs, waterproof materials with strong adhesion to the base layer, UV resistance, heat aging resistance, acid rain resistance, and puncture resistance should be selected; The roof for pedestrian access requires waterproof materials that are resistant to puncture, mold, and high tensile strength. Water storage roofs and planting roofs should be made of materials that are corrosion-resistant, moldy resistant, and puncture resistant; Large span building roofs require materials that are heat-resistant and have strong adaptability to deformation.

In addition, the roof also needs to use insulation materials with low water absorption, low density and thermal conductivity, and certain strength. The moisture content of the enclosed insulation layer needs to be accurately calculated based on the local annual average relative humidity and the mass water absorption rate of the material.

Overall, steel structures are increasingly favored by various enterprises due to their high strength, large span, short construction period, and low investment cost. Behind it, every material selection is a commitment to safety and quality.
